Delilah returns home from Switzerland, where she had been sent to a finishing school. Upon returning home, she is met at the airport by her step-father's son, Dominic from his previous marriage. Dominic is unaware of Delilah's budding feelings for him and treats her to careless affection that is generally accorded to the youngest member of the family. Delilah suffers his indifference on the quiet, yet as time proves, he is not entirely indifferent to her, but still love is out as far as Dominic is concerned. Delilah finds it hard to comprehend her feelings towards Dominic, even when she does, she takes time to realise it. Meanwhile being a virile man, Dominic starts a relationship with a bewitchingly beautiful woman who is deserted by the man she loves, and on account of feeling unwanted and lonely, seeks the company of other men, one of them being Dominic, who possessing an unusual clairvoyance correctly concludes that the woman he has befriended is a wonderful being behind the cool demeanour. Also, much later Dominic comes to learn something else too about the woman, which unravels many of the family's carefully hidden secrets. The tide of coincidence that follows takes everyone involved in the family by surprise, but whatever the coincidence, they do not prove unpleasant. Only Delilah is enraged by one discovery, very much concerning her, and being rebellious by temperament, she makes a firm resolution to demand reciprocation from the man she loves. But the one woman she dislikes so heartily, teaches her about love, and the serenity, patience and endurance that goes along with it. The invariable struggle with conflicting emotions that takes action with every individual in the story and the personality clashes that follow provides a strong backbone for the story itself.
