He is highly appreciated by William Hayley. He had considered Milton the 'greatest English author'. Other renowned poets such as William Blake, William Wordsworth, and Thomas Hardy revered John Milton. "Paradise Lost" has been considered as Milton's masterpiece, with that his reputation was considered as one of the greatest English poets of his time.
