Our society is like a jungle, with incredible beauty, enormous complexity, and hidden predators who may try to take advantage of the unprepared. What are the secrets for thriving and being strong? The characters in this story are fictional - the information about our rights is factual. Dee is approaching her high school graduation, her 18th birthday, and the arrival of monumental legal rights - from voting to making medical decisions, entering into contracts for loans and employment, giving up constitutional rights, getting married, and more. She is anxious - dealing with school lockdowns, college expenses, career choices, and her boyfriend. As the story unfolds she is suddenly and urgently called to spend the weekend with her grandmother, who carries her own challenges and secrets. Something seems not quite right. It's not clear who faces the greater risk: is it Dee, her grandmother, or all of us? We discover that things are not necessarily what they appear to be, or what we've been told. What guidance and inspiration will Dee need as she takes over her new rights?
