Simon Mallow is the head of a coven of Vampyres known as Shauna Faun. In addition to their undead ways, they are all musicians and work throughout the Faery kingdom as a band. They don't just perform for other Vampyres, but for the light Faery as well. Most of the light Faery - other than the druids and priestesses - are unaware that the popular band is composed of Vampyres. This is because the Vampyres have all agreed to feed only on Humans. Being far smaller than Humans, these Vampyres could never kill a human by feeding on them. But how and why did the Vampyres of Shauna Faun come to this agreement? Who is Simon Mallow, and how did he become a Vampyre and the head of one of the most respected Covens in the Isles? This is Simon's story. It begins just as he, a regular young light Faery, is finishing his schooling and prepares to begin his apprenticeship as a musician. One of Simon's friends, Lisbet, is the daughter of the chief druid. The druid has plans for his daughter to become a priestess. He doesn't believe Simon when he says that he and Lisbet are simply friends, and that he has no romantic designs on the girl. After a series of unfortunate incidents occur, the druid begins to believe that Simon is responsible. When Lisbet dies of a rare plague that is decimating the Faery population, the druid loses his mind, believing Simon is responsible for all of it. Just as the druid is about to end Simon's life in a slow and painful way, the boy is rescued by a stranger, whom he later discovers is a Vampyre. This autobiography of a dark Faery shows us the trials and tribulations not only of the Faery kingdom, but also of being a Vampyre there. And we learn that not all Vampyres are evil.
