There's a place in our community where the hungry are fed, the homeless are sheltered, and the abandoned are given care. It's the P.A.W.S. of Dearborn County Humane Center, which provides comfort and care for our community's unwanted animals. These books of unwanted pets, being healed and rehomed, form a beginning collection of stories showing the real differences in lives, of both pets and humans, that is done by the entire P.A.W.S. community. In this series of books, I follow each pet, from its prior home; describe the medical, loving work done at P.A.W.S of Dearborn County Humane Center; and then to their new life; the placement of the pet in its furever home. My job is to tell the stories of the many dogs and cats who have been adopted through P.A.W.S., to new homes or service work by interviewing the adoptees who have some amazing stories to tell. Many of these pets. like in this rescue story, are given a much tougher life than they deserve. Pepe's rescue is not for the faint of heart; in fact, it is not recommended for a bedtime story. Nonetheless, Pepe's Rescue also offers a great opportunity for parents to educate their children on the importance of treating animals as a valued member of their family.
