Melissa in Colombia is the sequel to "Melissa's Star." The two girls, Mellie and Julie, are forced to leave their beloved Swabia in Germany and live in Colombia where their parents will be missionaries for three and a half years. For the first time in their lives they are allowed to have two little puppies. They also get more and more enthusiastic about the wonderful Andes mountain scenery and the different animals. But they are shocked by the ants and cockroaches as well as dangerous scorpions and snakes. In Colombia, their delightful little brother, David, is born. The girls have a lot of fun looking after him, but Julie also is envious, because she wants to have more of her mother's attention. When Melissa later is kidnapped by guerillas, she receives help from the Lord in this desperate situation and becomes an ardent follower of Christ. The difficulties with the Spanish language are soon overcome, but the hatred of Melissa's classmate Soreida is only resolved after an accident that is recorded in the third sequel, "Melissa's Vacation" in the Caribbean, when the two become close friends.
