If one is to judge the merits of any given writer simply by their adherence to prevailing styles and characteristics, I'm not sure how we might view the poetry of Mace Morse. His is a style of varying formats and a voice that changes from first person narrative to opposing voices in dramatic dialogue. Take for example: "The bedroom is strewn with the memories of a life/Spent far from the edge./They had fought like people fighting a nightmare, /Tossing and clutching the sheets." Then contrast it with: " 'I told him, /"Let my robe fall around the tree base, /I'll not blush. Let your arms into mine/And whore me into sublimity, I shriek/For relief.' " No, most of what we find in Morse's poetry cannot be catalogued or attributed to some overriding philosophy or stylistic device.
