Spiritual Maturity : The Normal Christian Life

This book presents an overview of the Gospel of John, The Acts of the Apostles, and the majority of the Apostles' letters, (Epistles) in the New Testament. The Epistles that are not overviewed, are tapped for relevant Scriptures and incorporated throughout. Various essays and quotations are included, as well as a brief biographical section of seven people (crossing the centuries), whose lives, and/ or writings convey the overall message. Spiritual growth is a sublime endeavor going hand in hand with the ultimate goal of salvation. Prevailing concepts and beliefs must be evaluated Scripturally prior to, or in conjunction with the forward advance. Untruths are powerful; they can even pull down the human spirit, making a person less involved, increasingly docile, and at peace when they should be active, inquisitive and upward striving. Doctrines such as 'salvation' and 'the rapture' for those who simply place their trust in the Lord, are challenged; not endorsed. There is a scholarly theme in 'getting to the heart' and essence of those and other long-established doctrines which are, in the main, specific to Evangelical teaching. An in-depth comparing of Scriptures to Scriptures; as well as drawing from writings of devoted souls of bygone times, assist in furthering the endeavor. One can sense, in noting upturned faces in an average congregation, a longing to be uplifted with heart-touching moments emanating from the lectern-speaker; gems of truth that a person can carry forward, use and by them, become enlarged; even transformed thereby. No new religion is proposed other than the 'One Faith' envisioned by poet, John G. Whittier: "One faith alone so broad that all mankind Within themselves, its secret witness find; The soul's communion with the Eternal Mind."
