This book was a word game that I'd invented. Every month I challenged myself to write 10,000 words of a novel without knowing what would happen next. I would try to think of something funny, something inspired by Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams and then find a way to get from the last 10,000 words to the funny things I'd thought of. I then uploaded the novel as a 'part work'--which is how Charles Dickens released his novels. You may be familiar with 'part works' as it is how those 'build your own model plane' or 'complete your own encyclopaedia on the marvel universe' etc etc magazines are released. Each month I would upload the new part of the novel and offer the earlier parts for free on amazon for a week. When I did this, this novel reached the top downloaded science-fiction/comedy novel on amazon. When the project ended, I bundled them all together in this collection and now they sit here for sale as 'Sorcery and the Art of Giant Robot Maintenance'. It is both hilarious and irreverent. It's just silly fun. It's raw, unedited. The jokes are coming fast and thick and from the seat of my pants, and the ideas are crazy and raw and silly. I tried to keep it YA level of reading so it was accessible by everyone. It is science fiction comedy chaos set in a world were giant robots, like Voltron and Tranformers, are portrayed as Weapons of Mass Destruction, while wizards are hunted and despised by a madcap planet of aliens. A robotics genius (who is also an outlawed archeologist) and a wizard (who only knows one spell that could kill everyone) team up to save the world from... a group of inept and hilarious little red men. Sometimes it is a sharp satire of modern life that will have you both rolling with laughter, and sitting thrilled on the edge of your seat, sometimes it is full of twists and unexpected surprises, (that took me by surprise) undoubtably it has punchlines and quirks you will never forget. And, in the end, it was fun--and isn't that what life's all about?
