The Designer Disease Plagues swept out of the Middle East to wipe out 80% of the population of the world. Due to superior sanitation and medical facilities the Unites States was able to save more than a third of its people, but the world economy was destroyed, and the country was all but brought down to its knees. In the aftermath, Central and South America were taken over by a brutal Marxist Dictator, El Toro Mondragon, who instituted a forced breeding program, and raised an army to conquer what remained of the U.S. A teenage boy in the East Mountains of Central New Mexico comes of age after his family is killed by guerrilla raiders from the south. Taken in by his uncle, a retired officer, he has little other choice but to become a soldier. He fights the Victorio Carlos guerrillas, and aspires to become a Tactical Area Control officer like his uncle. The fate of the country hangs in the balance.
