He describes his grandfather's work and life in North America and in China, and his father's education in America and work in China before, during, and after the WWII. The author's unusual path into science and his scientific endeavors, and his life story also illustrate the changing society in America. He considers his grandfather and parents as migrants while himself a transplant.
