Cavalryman, Book 2 continues to trace the events and activities of Owen Boyle, an already trained horseman, in the Civil War. He joins the 6th NY Cavalry and, after months of training, rides to war in Northern Virginia, at Antietam and Gettysburg. Owen's abilities are rewarded with promotion. His teenage romance with a girl stations above him, plays in the background, but he meets a new and interesting school teacher in Winchester, Virginia. The causes and effects of the war are stage-center in this book, as are the attitudes of the men who rode with the 6th New York. Book 3 takes the reader through war's end.
