Are you resilient? Joyfully? I feel that some of the studies ignore the uniqueness of human experience and often define a person as "not being resilient" when they are actually going through a transformative and resilience building experience. As a coach and hypnotherapist, I see people when they are feeling broken and defeated; seeing themselves as vulnerable and lacking resources. When I hear their stories though, I see they have usually had a long history of surviving and overcoming adversity and have many resilience traits and experiences to draw upon. They just need a little tweak in perception and mindset, and sometimes a few tools to set them back on track. They have not stopped being resilient or lost anything, and they are not broken or even at a breaking point; they are just at a transition point in their resilience journey. (#tears)A person does not have to have all of the traits that contribute to resilience to be resilient; but having more of the traits and developing them more fully does make you more resilient. The traits that seem to be overarching and particularly essential for resilience are the seven traits below. I like to call them the resilience superpowers. If you have these seven traits, you are likely getting through most of what life may throw your way.Self-Awareness / PerceptionAdaptability - Able to bend & growStaying Calm & managing stressEmpathySelf-Control or Locus of ControlOptimismMotivation, Drive or Perseverance
