Self-realization has been the goal of many spiritual seekers throughout the ages. However, a very few of them are familiar with what the Self is? what can one do to realize it, and what is the importance of "know thy self?" Self-realization is a term that is often used in western philosophy as a way to describe the fulfillment of one's full potential. In eastern philosophy, Self-realization describes that state of life where the individual lives in harmony with the laws of nature or the laws of God in the full realization of his oneness and connection with the universe.Discoveries of modern science in Quantum Physics and its understanding of the universe offer an insight into the Self. This understanding of the Self and the universe corresponds to the description that is given to us by spiritual masters throughout the ages. The masters spoke of a field of life beyond the field of our norm al sensory perception, which is the source of everything in the universe. Some called it the Absolute, the Kingdom of Heaven, Nirvana, and Sat Chit Amanda. The description is the same, though the name may be different. The masters and saints have advised that we should "seek that first" if we want to be free from suffering and have a blissful life. Who am I, and what is the nature of myself? These are a couple of questions I started asking from a very young age? I was in my early teens when I first heard about self-realization. One of my tutors introduced me to the concept during one of our discussions about life. His simple explanation was, "self-realization is about knowing about yourself." He was not wrong, but his definition was not very helpful, maybe because I find it a little incomplete at that time. It became clear to me after I had experiences of silence and inner awareness during meditation.
