It is a well established fact that Emotional Intelligence is a far better predictor than Intellectual Intelligence. The single most important purpose of this book is to provide the reader with a ten-step process for achieving the emotionally intelligent greatness they were designed for. Yes, you were designed to achieve greatness at something. While I intend, in this book, to show you how to get there, I can only take the journey with you. I can't do it for you. I'll walk beside you, but I can't carry you. You are embarking on an exciting quest that can and will result in becoming the best possible version of yourself. As with any important quest, the work can be hard, in this case mostly because you'll be examining yourself, acknowledging where you need growth, and then growing. Here are the ten steps you'll be following. To achieve the Emotionally Intelligent You:1.Develop your internal compass. Discover who you are, understand your strengths and weaknesses, become the person you were meant to be and live your life's purpose.2.Formalize an energizing vision and goals and keep them in constant, committed focus.3.Optimize your attitudes so you can maximize your opportunities.4.Understand your emotions and channel their power in positive ways.5.Protect and preserve your body and it will serve you long and well.6.Commit to engage in life and not just be a bystander. It takes not only strong commitment but considerable courage and effort to make an important difference. If you are unwilling to do the work, there is virtually no point in trying to achieve greatness.7.Calibrate your internal compass for unerring accuracy. Build your life on a personal, unshakable, growing faith connection, solid values and clearly defined principles flavored with a generous dollop of humor.8.Spend most of your time with people who energize you and who draw energy from you. Limit exposure to negative people who discourage and bring you down.9.Learn to make time and money work for you, not dominate and control you.10.If you ever think you already know all you need to know, you've taken the first step toward decline. If you don't grow, intellectually, you fade away. Your brain needs daily challenge for maximum function. Now, ask yourself this question. "Can I afford to omit any of the ten steps to emotionally intelligent greatness briefly described above?"I hope you've answered no.Think of the ten steps as streets on a road map. If you miss even one turn on your journey, you are likely to miss the destination. If you miss one step on your search for the Emotionally Intelligent You, you may stop short of the final destination. You'll be a better person for sure but may not reach the best version of you. The book is laid out in self-study format. Read it through to the end. Complete each exercise. You'll be a much happier and better person if you do.So, let's learn together. I use the first four chapters to build a foundation. Then, in chapter 5, we'll start the journey in earnest. In this chapter, we just finished the first part of the foundation, an honest self-appraisal. Next, we'll tackle the challenge of differentiation, setting yourself apart from the herd. Then, we'll consider the power of choice and finally I will ask you to choose the kind of person you want to be when you are old. I ask this because aging is something you will do no matter how you choose to live. Your quality of old age is determined by how well you implement these principles. For that matter, so is the quality of your life from this day forth.
