Sandy Armistead is a 97-year-old black man, whose grandfather was a slave. He has lots of good memories and interesting stories to tell. He is happy in his life and content with himself because he had great parents. His father was good provider and worked for Ford Motor Company as a machinist. He was a wise man and a good teacher. Every night he would dress up for dinner with a coat, tie, and shiny shoes. He made it a special event, focused on his children, and made them feel like they were the most important people in the world to him. Sandy says that some of what he learned in life he doesn't see much in society today. "I guess we'll get through it, but it sure would be nice if we could go back to some of the things that worked not that long ago."
