Ten-year-old Sancho makes friends with his shy neighbor, Hannah. But their parents argue, and it turns into a racial feud. The parents forbid Sancho and Hannah from being friends. They don't even want their dogs, Rudolfo and Julienne, to play together. Sancho and Hannah secretly bond at school. Meanwhile, Rudolfo and Julienne sneak under the fence and become friends, too. Rudolfo even saves Julienne when she eats chocolate. Anger erupts when the parents realize that their children and dogs have disobeyed their wishes. Sancho and Hannah fear that their parents will punish their pets so they coax them to run away. When a big storm hits, the children worry about their dogs. They try to find them but get lost in the storm. Now all the parents must work together to save their dogs and their children. Finally, they do. United in friendship, they have learned from their children and their dogs to build bridges of trust, not walls of hate.
