About the dictionaryThere might have been times when we have heard or read something that made no sense to us. That is why sometimes we are encountering idioms. To be able to understand this dictionary, first of all, we have to answer one question - what are idioms?Idioms are phrases that have a meaning that is very different from its individual parts. Unlike most sentences that have a literal meaning, idioms have figurative meaning. A literal meaning is when each word in a sentence stays true to its actual meaning. Figurative meaning is when a combination of words mean something different than the individual words do.The list of idioms is not infinite but it is very hard to collect every single idiom in a single dictionary. Not to mention that language is always changing and many idioms that we have used in the past are now archaic and are changed with newer ones.In this particular dictionary there are around 4000 idioms from all around the world that are more or less used in English language nowadays. In my teaching career many of my students have been asking be about the meanings for many different idioms and why we are using them in the first place. To some of my students it was very easy to give them detailed questions and provide explanations, but unfortunately many of them have still found it very hard to understand and learn new idioms and that is why I have decided to create this dictionary to help all of the ESL students out there.I hope that this dictionary will help you to understand everyday conversations much better and make your knowledge of English language even richer than before Sincerely, Stevan Mijailovic
