Matt Stearns had his draft card pulled and winds up in serving on the front lines during the Korean War in 1953. He could have gotten a deferment and gone on to college like he had planned to do but a family crisis changed those plans and those he left behind are emotionally crushed when the MISSING IN ACTION (MIA) notice is delivered to his home a month before he was to rotate home. Especially his girl friend, Abigail Lawrence, (Abby) who he has known since middle school and his recovering alcoholic father who blames himself for Matt having had his draft card pulled. It's a emotional roller coaster ride for his family and friends emotions as they dread the thought of reading a notice that says Matt was killed in action yet know they will rejoice and jump for joy if the notice says Matt is safe. Waiting . . . Waiting . . . Waiting . . . truly . . . war is hell.
