Drawing: a Journey: a self-paced guide for mastering the fundamentals

The Italian Renaissance gave the art world chiaroscuro, the system of light and dark values employed to represent three-dimensional forms in two-dimensional artwork. Light and dark, however, had already been given to the world millennia before the Renaissance. Simply stated: it's how we see. I have often been asked if someone without drawing talent can be taught to draw. The answer is, "Yes they can, if they have the desire and the necessary discipline." The truth of this has been born-out in the lives of many students who were skeptical and hopeful at the start, but amazed and satisfied over time. Drawing is the most basic form of representational art. It is the fundamental proving ground of visual perception, and the primary interface between human effort and the created world.
