Caregiving from the Trenches is intended to be a workbook for the non-professional caregiver, to support them through the process of adjusting to the work and responsibilities of being a caregiver, while still maintaining a sense of self. Since I have been a full-time caregiver to various family members for the past fourteen years (beginning with my husband's first heart attack, continuing through to today), the book covers my experiences and what I learned from them. This book is for the ignored niche of caregivers who have no professional training in health care, who choose not to (or cannot) institutionalize their loved ones, who are unpaid for their service, and who reside with those they care for. There just isn't a book for the layman caregiver in the home. Until now.
