In Pursuit of the Promised Land: A Journey from Bondage to Freedom

John 10:10 tells us that Jesus came to give us life to the full, so why do so many of his followers settle for less? Do you recall the story of the Israelites from the Old Testament? God rescued them from Egyptian bondage but didn't take them on a direct route to the Promised Land. Instead, he led them through the wilderness to teach them to depend on him, to test their loyalty, to strengthen their character, and to prepare them for battle. God directs our journey to freedom in much the same way. As we peer into the Israelites' trek through a dry and desolate land, we can glean much wisdom from their victories and defeats alike. Their journey may even shed some light on our own wilderness seasons - perhaps even challenge us to set aside the familiar to adventure into our own pursuit of the full life Jesus came to give us.
