In the period that from peripatetic philosophers in Ancient Greece to flÂneur and to the artists who produce works that just include walking action, walking has been having different meanings throughout the centuries. In the lines from Ancient Greek Philosophy to Romanticism, walking was coded an experimental field and a radical attitude. In the historical perspective, walkers that referred to many different meaning categories such as pilgrim, pedestrian, flÂneur, stalker; walking shows itself in the fields like philosophy, poetry, novel and manifesto. This also can be determined in the headline of art. In this study, walking actions that were seen in the avant-garde art movements of the first half of the 20th century, Dadaism and Surrrealism and the impacts of these actions are examined. Therefore, it is aimed that this study can form a historical background for the roots of the artworks based on walking in our day.
