Glaucoma: Causes, Symptoms And Treatment

Glaucoma is a set of eye diseases that cause damage to the optic nerve and leads to a loss of vision. It is characterized by high intraocular pressure (IOP). Some types of glaucoma are open-angle glaucoma, normal-tension glaucoma and closed-angle glaucoma. The screening for glaucoma is performed by a standard eye examination or by techniques like tonometry, gonioscopy, scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, optical coherence tomography, etc. The mainstay of glaucoma treatment is lowering IOP through various pharmaceutical and surgical interventions.
