Are you considering purchasing probably the second largest purchase besides your land-based home? So was I until as a former CBS News investigative reporter I began to research the ins and outs of buying a sailing yacht. I had considered as a first time buyer a mono-hull. WRONG! A catamaran is much more stable and safer to sail! Also I knew I could not afford a new yacht so I began to research second hand ones. I was amazed all the avenues there are for finding GOOD second hand ones if you still decide to buy one. HOWEVER. I also learned that there is quite a great deal involved in buying a yacht through either a private owner or broker (avoid this avenue if possible!). I share in this book what experienced buyers of yachts tell you to do and more importantly not do! BEFORE you purchase you also need to realize that you are going to have to DOWNSIZE and SIMPLIFY your life unless you can afford a mega-yacht! You are most likely going to have as much space as the 200 square foot tent I lived in for 6 months as a Preparedness and Survival consultant! It was from this experience I am now able to share with you ways to add extra storage on your yacht. For example, I plan to use the Seven Seas as my bathing area or my solar shower system I used during those 6 months. This way I can use the head area (bathroom for you land lubbers) for more storage! I also can use the same outdoor toilet on board the yacht! As a Preparedness and Survival consultant, the land-based bug-out backpack is just as important to carry on your yacht and especially as you venture off it. I share with you what I carry in my backpack and lighter slack pack that even young children should carry. I love to cook and have addded a short chapter on some easy to fix sea-based meals along with several videos to go with them. By the way the galley (kitchen area) is where more life threatening accidents occur! I discuss them and how to avoid them. I will be pulling into marinas in my jouneys and I have provided a checklist of what you should look for especially if you plan to spend more time on land than on the Seven Seas. Speaking of checklists, these are very important and I have added several including the absolute essentials of clothing and other items that need to be on board and in your bug-out backpack. Weapons like my Glock 19 and Tristar Cobra shotgun are controversial bring-alongs and my long time associate and former U.K. Royal Marine Commando, Tim, has provided information regarding the maritime time laws from an individual USA state to international ones. If you are going to spend most of your time on the Seven Seas, you are going to have to develop a Preparedness and Survival MINDSET! My clients Michael and his wife Leslie are recognized neuroscience experts who share how to develop a MINDSET that will keep you and your loved ones safe on land and sea. One example is their F.E.A.R. Run Down I use all the time and have added to their chapter. Finally I share with you my dream I had that led to this book and why I know that eventually I will be joining over 10,000 Sea Gypsy Live-Aboards, which is double the amount from just 10 years ago! It is to me the expression of ULTIMATE FREEDOM!
