Rory's inability to find normalcy in his life after losing his girlfriend has left him with crippling depression. He thinks that Anna, his alluring and enigmatic neighbor, is the only woman who can help him move on-although he hasn't actually talked to her yet. At the lowest point in his life, Rory's thoughts of suicide are challenged as he crosses paths with Dylan, a neglected nine-year-old in his East Village apartment building. And though Dylan is dealing with his own obstacles-including an alcoholic and abusive single mother-his self-reliance and childlike optimism teaches Rory an invaluable lesson that might end up saving his life. Dylan is exposed to Rory's corrosive life of substance abuse and escorts, but as their bond grows stronger, Rory becomes a prominent adult male figure in Dylan's abandonment-and Dylan's innocent perception of the world might be Rory's only cure.
