Meditating verse-by-verse through an entire Book of the Bible is rare today. Most people do not take the time to engage in such a seemingly daunting task. This book addresses the problem by focusing on each verse of Philippians, extracting the "meat" of the verse and contemplating the meaning that was placed there by the Holy Author. Each meditation concludes with a "Reflection Moment," focusing on at least one main thought and challenging the reader to act upon that thought. There is frequent use of hymns from the past, wherein appropriate hymns from the Gadsby Hymnal are provided for deeper meditation. These hymns were written in the 17th and 18th centuries, and give insight that is unavailable elsewhere. These meditations are useful for Christians at every spiritual level. New Christians will find wisdom and insight that meditation provides--and may challenge them to engage in the activity of meditation on their own. Mature Christians will appreciate the information provided in these meditations, and will note that there is a frequent use of commentaries from the past, such as Matthew Henry.
