I first read this wonderful little book by Thomas of Kempen many years ago. Reading it again more recently, I realised that it was a book so important to the spiritual growth of all Christians that it should grace every bedside table! In making this translation, I have tried to be true to the essential spiritual truths contained in the original whilst making the language slightly more vibrant for today's readers. This book is not intended to be, therefore, a word for word translation but, instead, a book that captures the message and relays it sympathetically.
