There is no doubt that we are looking for ways to save money and food is quickly becoming a more expensive fact of life. Cost is not the only consideration. There are increasing concerns over the safety of genetically modified foods and where the produce is coming from. The United States imports 69% of all our produce and 37% of all our fruits from Mexico. These facts should bring to mind how nutritious are these imports coming from so far away. Produce loses nutritional value from the time it is picked until it reaches your local supermarket. In some cases it could take up to 6 weeks from picking time to delivery to your local markets. Efforts have been made and defeated in getting food product labels to include GMO ingredients. Recent legislation has passed by the Congress to make companies like Monsanto immune from any lawsuits that may stem from their genetically modified crops. Now why would they go through all that trouble, if there were no dangers or safety concerns in genetically modified foods? And why do both Monsanto's cafeterias and the White House only serve organic foods... hmm? "Growing Your Own Groceries" is much more than a gardening book. You will learn some new methods on how to set up a simple raised bed that is easy to work; grow more food in 80% less space, use up to 50% less water, and almost no weeding. My raised bed design can be made to be self-watering, without any complex plumbing; very little weeding; extending the season and once set up; there is very little maintenance thereafter. There is a vast amount of information regarding soil fertility, which goes beyond the novice backyard gardener, but not so complex that it cannot be applied. In addition, I have given much information on living a healthy lifestyle and revealing the fraud of "Western Medicine." With the increase cost of food, not knowing where it comes from, how safe it might be and how nutritious, wouldn't it pay to take some time out, to do something that will benefit you and your family?
