Gio Valducci worked as a baker for forty-six years and retired at age Sixty-seven, having purchased a condo in Southern California just a couple of blocks from the ocean. A small beagle hound shows up at his door and while they are walking the beach he sniffs something out that sends Gio on the adventure of his life. Gio, who has some how remained single all those years meets Sally, the woman of his dreams, and soon he moves into her ocean-side home. Suddenly his life comes alive with intrigue, as he is consumed with collecting one of the ocean's most treasured possessions: ambergris. It is a mysterious waxy chunk of flotsam expelled by whales that is used in the production of expensive perfume. The collection of this precious resource is not without risk and Gio is soon dodging a renegade thief, a Mexican crime cartel and aligning himself with local people of questionable character. Two of which are twenty-something identical twins, Ryan and Bryan, who have spent their lives switching back and forth, sharing teachers, girlfriends and fooling even their parents. Until, something happens to change everything. As Gio successfully sells his ambergris to a broker from Copenhagen, whose personal body guard, Alsace L. Wohljung, a retired Interpol officer still using his Interpol identity papers, befriends Gio and soon is asked to be best man at Gio and Sally's wedding. Amidst all this activity Gio sees something that makes him wonder if Sally's best friend, Marge, is also her lover. As Gio and Sally leave for their honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas they believe a quiet life will follow, unaware that Ormando, a category four hurricane will bring devastation and death. Remarkably the Mexican cartel chief and his henchmen are in Cabo for a fishing tournament that Gio and Alsace are also participating in. What more could happen to this ordinary man? How about narrowly avoiding death by a cartel hit man, being jailed in a Mexican prison on trumped-up charges and later unknowingly smuggling two dealer-sized bags of marijuana across the U. S. border.
