I Will Wait: Sexual Purity In A Sensual World

Life for me has not been a bed of roses; it's been difficult to live in a world that is so driven by sex. It's no wonder that people choose casual sex over commitment. The world has painted the picture that sex rules the world. Our ear and eye gates are constantly reminded via television commercials, reality shows, magazines and the internet, that to sell a product successfully, you must engage an element of sex. Let's just face it, sex sells! I hesitated in writing this book because it involved a deep level of my vulnerability. Growing up in a religious household established a stern commitment that, to this day, I still withhold. I was taught to keep myself chaste before marriage. I made this promise to God, and today, over 50 years later, this vow hasn't been broken. You would think that something this admirable would be celebrated by others, but to my dismay, many have criticized and made me the pun to their jokes. Waiting for marriage before sex has somehow become a clich? in today's society. Do I hope to be married one day? Absolutely. I pray for this regularly and encourage my friends and family to do the same for me. God instructs us to pray out of the longings of our heart, so it's ok to desire marriage! I am continually challenged to view my singleness as an opportunity granted to me by my Heavenly Father, not as a burden to be disparaged, disdained, and persecuted. God asked me to trust Him, and you know what? I did. I never imagined still being single and over 50 years old, but when God says He has a plan, I've learned to sit back and trust Him. To many, both young and old, the thought of abstaining from sex while dating seems somewhat foreign. I decided long ago that through God's help, I would choose to be pure and become a template by which the younger generation could pattern their lives after. I often asked the question, "God, why me?". His answer, "So that you can show the world that your God is a keeper if you want to be kept". Hopefully, someone will glean from my personal testimony and tips on how to abstain from sex while dating until holy matrimony. I base my belief on biblical principles.
