With the Mexican-American War raging across South Texas and Northern Mexico, the United States Government sends over 50 Texas Rangers into Laredo to protect against Mexican militiamen crossing the Rio Grande. Texas Ranger Kiger Jones and his men have been fighting for a year to repel Mexico's efforts to take back land they consider still theirs. The battle in Laredo had been long and bloody, but farther south along the same great river a much bigger war is brewing - a war unlike any in American history. Two wealthy men seek to end their slave-trading days with one last delivery of African slaves to the beaches just south of Brownsville along the gulf. What will follow will test Jones, his Rangers, and all of humanity in a fight for survival.
