Having wealthy, successful parents turns out to be a curse for ten-year-old Hernando Cortez. As his brilliant parents draw close to developing a cure for malaria, they need more financing from Johnny Shade, a wicked lawyer and crooked politician. When Johnny refuses, Hernando's parents push back. Soon after, the couple winds up dead. But is it coincidence or foul play? After investigators sweep the incident under the rug, poor Hernando is sent to live with his conniving aunt. It's soon clear, though, she's just after one thing: his huge inheritance. She cares nothing for the boy and treats him like yesterday's garbage. Greed and evilness cloud her judgment when she learns the money can't be touched until Hernando turns eighteen.
