Material properties like elasticity are usually studied to be able to select best materials for particular applications. Knowledge of elasticity is usually applied in almost all mechanical designs and structural analysis. The underlying idea in most applications is that materials should not be subjected to stress beyond the elastic limit, else they will get deformed.
