Drift Away: The Poetry Collection

Drift Away: The Poetry Collection is a semi-autobiographical depiction of Brian Summerville's maturation from 17 years old to 27 years old. It is divided into two sections, each containing two chapters. The first section, Imperfections of Love, is dedicated to Brian's adolescent dealings with falling in love, losing love, heartbreak and the process of healing. While the second half of the book, Spiritual Reflections, ventures into a deeper aspect of Brian's journey of growth. He shares his feelings on various subjects including the modern experience of the African-American male, societal ignorance and spiritual revelations. Brian offers an honest account of his painful reflections and quiet introspection, all the while giving readers a glimpse into his southern-driven speech. Thus, inviting them not only into his body of work, but also into the chambers of his heart.
