Set in 1670, Joshua Gardner, captain of the pirate sloop, Bagatelle, is not a typical fearsome buccaneer, but the leader of a happy crew, willing to follow him on his escapades on the seas round the smaller islands of the Caribbean close to Cuba and Haiti. He doesn't have everything his own way however, as Sir Stuart Moore, governor of the islands, and his band of militia led by the evil Commander Richmond, do all in their power to stop and punish him. While pursuing his course, Joshua gains information from friends and his own network of spies, including a pair of local beauties, and discovers the governor is not the honest upright citizen he claims to be for one in such a position of trust. Interspersed with adventures and close calls with English, Dutch and Spanish pirates as well as the navy, Joshua does what he can to bring the governor to justice.
