Genesis, like the subtitle says, is a book of beginnings. It is written in simple language. The author has sought to interpret the book from a literalist standpoint with an intent to help the reader understand the book in the light of the rest of the Bible. He begins by discussing the creation as opposed to evolution. He enlarges on the covenant God made with Abraham. This pervades the entire book.
