Henry wants nothing more then to have lunch with his beautiful bride and to spend the rest of his life with her. That's exactly what he is on his way to do. He hears loud voices and walks up to see what its all about when he sees a young black man about to be hanged in front of a yelling crowd of men. Only one man steps up to intervene and as a result his life, his wife and their home are threatened. In the late 1920's southern Missouri country farming community the law belonged to one wealthy man.
