The Endowment

Grace Jennings is struck by lightning during a vicious rainstorm in a small town in the Pacific Northwest. Her neighbor and friend races her to the local hospital a few miles away, where a doctor, after utilizing all of his medical skills for an hour, fails to revive her and pronounces her DOA. As the tired medical staff, remove their rubber gloves and release their hyped up tensions, Grace groans softly and sits up on the gurney. All are aghast, and hushed murmurs of, "it's a miracle, praise God," can be heard throughout the room. Two of the five kneel and cross themselves. The doctor rushes to her side, pulls the white sheet from her face and stares into the eyes of a confused Grace Jennings, who quietly asks, "Where am I?" Grace Jennings is not the woman she was before the lightning raced through her body, but is it a welcome change or a curse?
