The seeds for Sweet Serenity were planted on a cool September morning way back in 1974 when WBCN, Boston's FM rock radio station, announced ex-Beatle George Harrison would be performing at Boston Garden in December. I waited all night long on November 3 for the Garden box office to open the next morning at 10:00 am. You couldn't sleep in those old, rickety, wooden Boston Garden seats, but you dozed now and then. Surrounded by thousands desiring to be part of rock and roll history seeing George Harrison on tour, we were Hari-Fans ready for our first George-Fest. That's how it began, "All Those Years Ago." George meant more to me now than ever as his spirituality and relationship to a higher being solidified my spiritual journey. A day didn't pass without my thinking of George or writing something in my journal that happened to me based on his song lyrics. Just ask my college friend, Larry Manning. After discussing a George tune, we would end the conversation with Frank Zappa's legendary title, "It Can't Happen Here," like a skit from Saturday Night Live. My "All Things Must Pass" album was so worn out by continuous playing on an old stylus that it gave new meaning to "Snap, Crackle, & Pop," the Rice Krispies cereal. Sweet Serenity is dedicated to the life of George Harrison. I created poetry from photographs of George, thinking what he would say to me based upon the images. It was important to show the loving relationship George had with Krishna and his beautiful gardens at his Friar Park home. The book was completed over a three-year period and contains nine chapters. You are invited to read every section, as there is something for everyone to enjoy.
