Mr. Walder really did become a librarian and he would unselfishly volunteer to come to Dr. Joyce's class once a week to read amazing stories to his students that suffered with moderate/severe disabilities. Mr. Walder did decide to retire from his profession that he loved so much and Dr. Joyce was inspired to write a children's book and make Mr. Walder the main character.
