The Best Christmas Ever - by Lucy Heath Of all the people that came into Davis Travel Agency, Raymond Davis couldn't for the life of him, understand why a single attractive woman like Virginia Brooks wanted to shut herself up-all alone, in the middle of nowhere at a mountain ski resort for the Christmas holiday.Ginger taught sixth grade at Hoover Charter School. She loved her job, and she love her students, but she thought if she heard the phrase: 'The Best Christmas Ever', one more time she would explode. She heard it from the kids, she heard it on TV, radio, social media, and from anybody, and everybody who wants you to buy their products. But, what about the people that were only reminded of hurts, and tragedy during the Christmas season. If she could just get away from Christmas, she would be alright. She couldn't take a cruise. The ship would be crowded with happy Christmas people, and couples-yes couples that share romance, and happy endings. Virginia Brooks had nothing to look forward except an empty Christmas all alone, so she might as well be somewhere far away from Christmassy people. Three years ago her parents were killed in a head on collision by a drunk driver, and a year after that her ex left her. Raymond thought the lady who came into the shop looked familiar. He was instantly drawn to her, but somehow sensed this wasn't the first time he was drawn to her. He couldn't place her, but he knew he had met her before. Most of his clients had booked their winter vacation months ago. He searched his computer but couldn't find anything for her. He took her contact information in case something turned up. Her now close friend, Julia Gomez who shared the sixth grade hallway with her, had to convince Ginger to start decorating her classroom-"it's for the kids she said." Two days later Raymond had a cancellation, and give Miss Brooks a call. His shop was located on the 'strip mall' on her way home, so she stopped in. Ginger booked the vacation, and headed off to the Adaline Ski Resort in Maine, only to end up stranded in one of the worst blizzards ever to hit the east coast. A weather alert news flash came over the TV about a blizzard moving down from Canada into Maine and other New Englander states. Winds were blowing to 25 -30mph. Cars were piled up, and wires were down. Raymond knew that was the vacation spot he booked Ginger in, and felt an urgency to rescue her. He struck out on an adventure of a lifetime taking him through many chivalrous acts that pressed him to accomplish feats beyond his endurance; only to wonder if a woman he barely knew would let him invade her private space.
