In this modern-day story meets Arthurian-legend-inspired fairy tale, fifteen-year-old protagonist Skyler, a hipster military brat who lives with young, single Air Force mom Lucy, is once again displaced to another town and high school. This time Sky's mother promises the move will be permanent: They have come into a substantial inheritance that includes a sprawling estate in a small well-to-do enclave of Chatham Massachusetts. Meanwhile, in alternating chapters, at Tintagil Castle, enter teen sociopath Morgan Le Fay, trying to get her sweet, innocent little siblings to be the victims of her sadistic games. Skyler awkwardly settles in at Chatham High. She is a deep-thinking, loving, intelligent, intense teen, troubled by the fact that she has never met her father, whom Lucy remains stubbornly tightlipped about. At Chatham High, she is welcomed into the clique of popular girls but quickly loses her newfound status when she stands up for the school's social outcast. Skyler seeks solace from her school troubles in the barn behind her new house, rummaging through her grandparents' old junk, but she slips on the floor and hits her head. When she comes to, she sees a copy version of herself. Terrified and reeling from the blow, she passes out. Skyler suddenly finds herself a stranger in a strange land-The Isle of Apples-where she encounters a series of quirky and mysterious characters, who have been awaiting her arrival since before she was born. Two disparate worlds, modern and fairy tale, begin to join. Skyler's father Blaine is being held captive by evil Isle of Apples ruler Queen Morgan. Skyler's mission is to save him, though she has no idea how, nor does she feel qualified for the task. Soon, she meets the sexy Makeal, charged with watching over her. The two outsmart various traps set by the lethal Queen Morgan, including a serpent and eerie black swan, but just as their connection deepens and they work up the nerve to express their mutual feelings, they are torn apart by a skillful con artist. Separated, Skyler and Makeal lose the formidable power they possess while together. Skyler must now trust her gut alone as she gets closer to the condemned zone, where her father is said to be imprisoned, and nothing is what it seems. In the interim Skyler's copy has taken over Sky's life at Chatham High and is wreaking havoc. Will Skyler be able to rescue her father? Can she get back to home to her mom Lucy before she is sent to prison for murder?
