While spending 30 days in inpatient drug rehabilitation therapy, I learned so much about myself and about the disease of addiction. These 30 days were intense and full of tears and uncomfortable situations and conversations. However, I needed it. I learned many coping skills to put into my recovery tool belt and one of them was poetry. I challenged myself to write a poem per day in any style then I challenged myself to write a haiku per day. The result of the latter challenge is this book. My torturer literally became my remedy. I can either choose growth or I can choose comfort but I cannot choose both. Recovery is possible. One day at a time. So, Haiku Doin'?
