After 300 years under Spain, the first to draw blood from the colonizer were the people of Cavite. Not all those revolutionaries were men, a good number of them were Caviteñas, the women of Cavite. Three matriarchs, muddled through the American occupation and Japanese occupation during WWII by sheer wit and diplomacy. They came out of foreign domination stronger than the men. By the time peace and independence was reached, it was too late to break their spirit back into domestication. All while retaining the balance between feminine charm and subtle assertiveness that took a Women's Liberation Movement, a century later, to teach the women of other nations.
