Dav is a delver. He delves. This isn't his first choice of career, but when needs must and scary men with large knives say he delves... he delves. This means it's his job to get dropped down deep dark holes in the ground in search of the ancient relics. Devices that allow society to function and scary men with large knives to line their pockets. This time, however, there's more down the hole than anyone was counting on, and their knives just aren't as scary as what waits in the dark. Dark Devices is at its heart a story of a world concealed beneath everything they think they know, where the threat of the unknown is rivalled only by those too self-invested to see it, and this is its beginning, down in the dark where sane people dare not tread. If you think you're not getting paid enough for your job, you should try being a delver. Or don't. That's the safer choice.
