This book was first conceived at a time when teen suicides were increasing and teen violence in schools was becoming copycat. Now, even some eminently successful icons in their prime have committed suicide, and suicide has risen to become a leading cause of death. Yet, mental health experts seem puzzled. What could spawn such widespread violence toward oneself or other people?Often, an individual feels totally marginalized, even by his or her friends, and believes he or she is at their so-called "wits' end." For example, this author once wrote, "I have peered into the abyss of insanity and grabbed at any toehold or handhold to keep from tumbling in!"But this book suggests that our state of mind at any time may stem from a period very early in our lives that we cannot consciously recall. Furthermore, once our so-called "waking consciousness" does arrive about three years of age, our brains still retain some of our very early experiences without our awareness! These can reappear subconsciously throughout our life.The so-called "bottom line" is that human lives are a sum of all our experiences. Those that can have the greatest impact are very emotional and usually occur when we are most susceptible, typically very young. The sum and substance of those events may become the cornerstone to shape one's subconscious view of his or her self and others, life, and the world at large.
