Wounded in a roadside explosion set off by Taliban fighters, Jamie Rhodes needs to fight to recover first his health, and then his place in the British Army, which is the only life he knows. He quickly achieves both those goals, but has lost the woman he loves. He soon discovers a plot which if unchecked will bring chaos nationwide and even beyond, perhaps threatening Western civilisation itself. His senior officers are unconvinced when they are told of his story, confident that they have security under control, and believe that Jamie's earlier injuries have simply left him paranoid and unable to distinguish between reality and fantasy. He is forced to turn to another ally in his battle against the extremists, and the life of his former girlfriend must be endangered in order to bring the terrorists to justice if a national disaster is to be avoided. One can only hope as the story unfolds that it will all work out right in the end, because it will otherwise be Britain's biggest calamity since the one planned by the infamous Guido Fawkes and his colleagues, and it could also spell the end of everything for Jamie and his companions.
