Jooba, a Jamaican monkey, would rather spend time playing than doing any work. When asked to go to the market to buy fruits and vegetables, he makes excuses because he has never had to shop at the market before. With his list in hand, Jooba seeks help from his animal. Not only does Jooba find going to the market to be fun, he learns that asking for help is the best way to accomplish an unfamiliar task. This picture book targets Ages 3-7. It is designed primarily for read-aloud experiences. It offers children education about fruits and vegetables and opportunities for counting. It can also be used for word recognition with beginning readers. The story supports diversity by giving a glimpse into Jamaican culture and foods. A menu of a typical Jamaican meal is found at the end of the book, as well as a brief history explaining extinction of Jamaican monkeys.
