March 1947. A freak snowstorm. Three volatile people are trapped in a rambling farmhouse in Ann Arbor, Michigan: Simone Blankwell, the new wife of the wealthy homeowners' son is plagued by insecurity and personal demons. Violet, the young black housemaid, confronts an unfamiliar world that threatens to overwhelm her Christian upbringing. Randolph, the sadistic handyman uses his skill at the grand piano to seduce the women and create chaos. Jealousy and resentment between Violet and Simone increase by the hour as the two women are alternately attracted and repulsed by Randolph's advances. Racial, sexual, and class tensions build to a crescendo as the three characters scheme to get what they need from each other. Will the storm brewing inside become more dangerous than the one raging outside?
